Decarb?

I see the Competition finish HR and Sar models in the exchange and in the auction site with a description of being "Decarb" or "Decarb Removed", I'll take is decarburized but what is it? Is a chemical process or is a surface polish?



Also is the Carb/Decarb an issue with the CG (coated models) once the coating wears out?

It's a thin, tough, layer of decarburized surface metal that's very prone to rust. It's a product of the heat treat process. If you do a search, there's been a lot of discussion about it. People say there's ways to take it off without too much trouble.

You can remove it by sanding, not chemically stripping it. It takes some abrasive to scrape it off.
