Alright my fellow reprobates, time to put the last month's wealth of info to use. This one should be fairly simple for anyone to take part in,

Using a Becker knife of your choosing, carve a holiday ornament. Be it Christmas, Festivus, whatever, whip up an ornament using wood and your knife, and only wood and your knife. The type of wood is up to you as is the knife. Make it purdy enough and who knows, Ka-Bar might stick it on their Christmas tree in the office. The more elaborate, the more difficult, the more work put into it, the more consideration you will get towards winning. The better it looks, well, that certainly wouldn't hurt either. (You can add a loop of ribbon or whatever to hang it from wherever you hang your holiday ornaments.)

Info Thread can be found here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ad-02-Novemberr-2013-Knife-Choice-Usage-Maint

Ho ho ho! Bk14 is going to get some serious sharpening and use here.

I ended up using the BK14 and a piece of cherrywood. The wood turned out to be a little harder than I thought it would be.

Whittled it down to shape.

Ho, Ho, Ho! This is way better than freezing my shanks off trying to start a fire in the snow.

Edit: So. It appears that I am way more lazy in my real life than even I could have imagined/rationalized. There's always the next one...to fail again.

Ho Ho Ho! Let's Go. :D

Well, I failed pretty miserably at this one. I chose to use 3+ year old dried Pecan and started with::

Made a plank::

Used a BK9 and a BK11 for the project::

Ended up with my "Gingerbread House"... at least that's what I'm calling it... :D

Alright, I'm calling him good. I could nitpick forever here...

I made a little bear with the BK9.

He just needs a hook to hang from the tree, but he's doing fine hanging out on my shelf for now. :cool: Some of my favorite ornaments when I was a kid were small wooden animals so I decided to have a go at making one.

This was my first try at carving anything more than just a pointy stick. I learned quite a bit making this little guy and already have a few ideas at things I would have done differently earlier on to make him better. I would like to say that The King can handle fine detail work just fine if need be. :thumbup: I could have used my BK11 or even the little BK13, but I couldn't resist using the BK9.

Here are a few work in process pictures:

Ho Ho Ho!

It all started with the BK17 and a block of wood.

What's it gonna be?

Hmmm.

Looks like a BK14!

Happy Holidays!

Here is another ornament, this time carved only with the BK17.

I drilled a hole in it using the tip of the 17, and made the loop out of a willow branch.

Father Christmas is looking a little rough, but that's how the BK2 does things! Maybe some paint when he's dry? Or some oil.
Once again, finding a decent piece of wood in the city can be a challenge. I found some green trimmings from in unidentified tree. I wasted no time carving a piece up, this challenge was so fun, I'll probably do a few more when the wood dries out!

Once again great challenge and can't wait to see what you guys can do, especially with the smaller knives! haha!

Ho ho ho, I'm in! Just bought my first Becker, a BK14- Merry Belated Christmas to meeee!

Carved a dove. Tons of fun with the BK14 and a chunk of pine wood. And I only got cut once!
