Got out yesterday for a little duck hunting. It was cold for a Florida morning, 27 by thermometer and 90% humidity as I headed out through the woods behind the house. A buddy and I went a few miles upstream and set out some decoys. The sun was just breaking the tree line when I had a flock come in on my side. Three shots, and I had my three woodies. A few minutes later, a few more came in low on his side and he got his.
He headed home and I spent a couple hours just wandering around, The sun had warmed it up nice and it was a great day just to be out. Saw a bald eagle, a couple of ospreys and an otter. I'd been seeing a couple eagles close to the house, but haven't seen an otter since last year.
Later in the afternoon, another buddy and I tried another spot, we baited half a dozen bush hooks on our way to a little island I've been wanting to try. I'd seen several ducks fly up from the shallow backwater across the channel from where I keep the boat tied up.
We got the decoys out, and sat back. The ducks didn't fly till sunset, I managed to get one heading back to the boat. On the way home, we checked the lines and had one decent channel cat. All in all a pretty good day banging around the swamp.
