I just realized I have several folders with the Gerber Parabellum and Ritter Mini Grip being my best 2. But going through things I dont have a single newer fixed blade knife(other than kitchen knives) to my name except for one...a older Cattaraugus 225Q that I picked up at a garage sale for $5 :) . And I consider that more of a antique than a "user" . Im looking for a Fixed Blade to take with me when I go camping and in the outdoors. Something with a decent enough blade to hold a edge and take the "rigors" of camping and camp use and we all know how camp knives can get abused for various things.

The last fixed blade I had was a Standard Kabar I wore/used in the Army that got lost out in the desert circa 1990 or so so thats long gone :(

If you want a lot of knife for the dollar spent then take a look at Condor. The Varan is similar to your KaBar.

For a large chopper all around camp knife get a user Becker BK9 for a lighter easy to carry knife any $12 Mora would be great. Then later you can have a custom kydex sheath made that hold them both.

It depends on size, Mora is an amazing choice (I prefer the Robust because of it's thickness but it's carbon so if you need stainless they use nice sandvik steel as well) but for a bit larger you cannot go wrong with the tank (BK2) or the big bad do it all BK9, I own both and they're great buys but as for inexpensive that's also a factor, $10 is inexpensive for some as for me $60 is inexpensive (even on a tight budget) and for that I will go with whoever said the Condor Hudson Bay, for about $40 it'll give a BK9 a tight run for the money (no pun intended), good luck :)

Kershaw Camp 10, Condor Hudson Bay or Kumonga(all are in the $40 range) if you're looking for a large camp knife, Mora or Condor Rodan if you're wanting something small.

what you reaallly need is the bahco curved blade wrecking knife, if you actually want to do it right and cheaply.
it is MADE to be hit with an actual hammer (both the spine and the back of the handle), so batoning with wood is childs play- and is cheap as.

google bahco curved blade wrecking knife and you will find it

How inexpensive?
For a small to medium great knife consider an Esee 3 or 4.
If you want a cheap big knife/chopper you could go something in the Ka Bar ZK series.
