decent kit blade

Hello,

I'm new to knife making and wanted to try the back half of the project first and see what I think of it before investing in grinders and stuff for heat treating a blade. So... I'm trying to find some decent choices for a blade. I'm looking for a drop point blade perhaps like a Fallkniven F1 (since I can get one of those) but I've also been wondering about things like the Rocky Mountain Drop Point Knife Kit available from Crazy Crow.

My intention is that this would be a knife to be carried in the woods and would be subjected to a good bit of use so I want something sturdy.

My thinking is that if I find I enjoy putting the scales on and shaping them, making a sheath, and some of that back half then I'll see what it takes to get going on making the blade too.

Thanks
-Dan

Sounds like a plan to me, that's how I got started. Read through the stickies at the top of the forum, there's plenty of info and links there to get you going. You can also check other suppliers like Texas Knifemaking Supply and Jantz (google 'em, I don't have the links in front of me) for other finished blades and stuff like handle material.

Have fun!

If you can get an F1 blade I would jump all over it...they have been scarce the last year or so, and you won't find a better one IMO...see my avatar:thumbup:
