Can someone recommend a non-chemical (steam, just sonic waves, whatever) jewelry cleaner? I'm looking for my wife. Thanks.

I like the one I got at Brookstone for $50. You have 60 days to return it for a full refund and "forever" to exchange it if it dies.

A teaspoon of biological laundry detergent, a cup of hot water, soak for an hour, brush with an old toothbrush, rinse under cold water, polish with a jewellers rouge cloth.

The only thing you have to buy is the cloth, and it will last you 10 years.

By the way, TOMBSTONE is the man when it comes to ultrasonic cleaning questions. I ended up going with a Crest 3/4 gallon unit. Again, it's not cheap compared to the Sharper Image type offerings, but it sounds like it may be money well spent in the long run; both in terms of longevity and actual cleaning power. I purchased mine through an authorized Crest dealer that always has auctions going on at eBay. Perusing their various auctions will give you a good feel for the variety of sizes available. Their prices are really good, and if you decide to buy, just call their 800 number (rather than bid on the auction) and they'll give you an extra little discount on the eBay commission they don't have to pay. Here's their info:
