Decided to give a 940 a try

After reading a bunch, and watching videos, I finally decided to give a Green/Black 940 a go. Ordered it tonight. It was a toss up for me between it, a Mini Barrage with gray G10, or a Rift. The fact that it seems to be a must-have helped sway my decision.

Now for the wait. Not only to have it in hand, but to see if I got a good one, or will I have to return it.

One of the best decisions you'll make in a long time mate, fantastic knife. (If it comes with no issues) Still my favourite edc, its a big blade in a small package. Just used mine to pull out all the tile spacers around the kitchen splashback. Enjoy it.

Great choice. I have two 940s and love them. One came acceptable, the other went back for a new blade. Worth the effort imo.
The last folder I purchased was a GB2 and I had to return it twice to get one without a big recurved edge in the blade. Again, well worth the effort.

Hope you like yours as well as I do.
Quicky pic because the 940s deserve it.

Ok now......stop drooling. It will be there soon enough. :)

It took years of thinking that the 940 might possibly be a good fit for me before I decided to take the plunge and buy one. Looking at photos of it (never got the chance to see one in person) it seemed like a combination of just right and kinda weird. That odd shaped, skinny blade--could it possibly perform as well as my full flat ground Spydercos? Turns out it does. Once I finally got hold of one I have not carried anything else. Had to sell a lot of knives because the 940 just fits my needs perfectly, no reason to keep them. The green/black version is great looking, though my personal favorite is the -1.

Yeah, I have a few from the other side. Good to have variety. This one is one of my top three for sure.

Waited two years to get a 940. I now realize I waited too long.

Yeah, I waited about 2 years myself. Knew it was the right one for me when I saw the Nutnfancy review. Just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a blade. Glad I did

That Forest Green 940 Limited/Exclusive in the above photos is worth a trip in to your local REI. We have a store less than a mile from us and so went in yesterday for a look. While the stock version with T6 scales is as popular as always, the G10 scales and the purple(?) spacers with the S30V blade make this knife a good buy. Even though a little on the expensive side, it's worth the coin.

I finally decided to give the 940 a try a couple months back in the form of the 940-2. I was surprised by how much I like it. It's been my main off duty carry ever since, but it might be supplanted when my preorder Bugout arrives. Time will tell. But all the praise for the 940 series does indeed have merit.

I've never seen a green G-10 version. Looks good

The G-10 adds some weight, but is very well balanced. The one I got to play with was centered, and the bevels acceptable. For the info part, their exclusive 531-1501 has the same Forest Green scales. In my book, either would be a good choice.

My first Benchmade was/is not a 940 but a 943. Coming over from various Spyderco's, I really appreciate the thin handle on the 940 series. I can clip it in my jeans and it will still allow me to put my Samsung S7 phone in the same pocket without fear of scratching the glass. That knife just rides perfectly along the outside seam of my jeans.

I agree, gnystrom. When my main daily carry was a Para 2, Endura or Native, I got used to dedicating a pocket for whichever folder I was carrying. Not necessary with the 940/3--a huge plus IMO.

My G10 940-1501 (2.6 oz) is a bit lighter than the aluminum scaled version. The 940-1 is still lighter at 2.4 oz.

I posted this in another thread about being pleasantly surprised with a recent purchase, but I feel it's very relevant here:

For me it has been the BM 943. But before everyone says, "well duh." I have to admit, I never warmed up to the 940's blade shape. I just found it a bit odd and I couldn't make myself like it. I always knew the 943 also existed but it never garnered the love the 940 seemed to. Anyway, must've been about a month ago I was at my local brick and mortar knife store and I saw the 943 and decided to pull the trigger.

I've made a few posts before about how much I like this knife but I can't praise it enough it seems. The blade shape is much more appealing to me. It seems to have the right amount of everything: blade length, handle length, the weight is nice, the slim profile is nice as it takes up little room in my pocket. As a lefty I really appreciate the ambidextrous nature of the Axis lock. The moveable pocket clip is a huge plus. I like the colors of the 943 more than the 940 as well. Black and blue back spacer as opposed to green and purple back spacer. The S30V is great; BM seems to do a good job with it. Now as far as QC goes, because I know it get's talked about a lot for BM, I have zero complaints. The edge came shaving sharp, the blade is still perfectly centered, no blade play in any direction, and the pivot is wonderfully smooth. It has truly been a pleasant surprise.

I think of the 943 as a smaller cousin of the 710. It's an easy carry and I have always loved the clip point blade. I would pretty much 'ditto' everything said above; it's spot on (to me that is!)

I have a suspicion I would like the 943 a lot. I've been holding out for a 943-1, but who knows when, if ever that will happen. The 940 blade shape turned me off at first just based on looks, but I gotta say it does everything I ask of it really well. Slices cardboard and zip ties like crazy. I use the tip to flip these tiny recessed switches on a piece of field audio equipment I sometimes use at work, so it's actually pretty well suited for delicate work.

Sorry in advance for piggybacking off your thread.

Is there any reason why the 940-2 has different handle/scale contours compared to the 940 and 940-1? Is the 940-2 meant to be an update/evolution to the 940 line?

Yes, I believe it's just an upgraded version of the 940. And I'm sure the materials used had something to do with how they made the contours(someone correct me if I'm wrong). I carry the 940-2 as my edc, and I love this knife. I polished the Bronze washers to get a smoother action, as if it really needed it as this knife flips buttery smooth and fast! Love it!

For those looking to try out a 940 as well, I just placed my 940-2 up for sale in the BST section. Perfect to my eye blade centering and smooth axis lock :)
