Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and new to guided sharpeners. I’ve always used the pull through style and decided as I get nicer edc and kitchen knives it’s time to get something that will give an edge not ruin it. I’ve done a ton of research and have narrowed down to the Hapstone R2 and RS. I like the size and simplicity of the RS but from everything I’ve read the main bad is the possibility of bending a tube when tightening the stone. Just looking for some guidance of why the R2 maybe a better option for me.

Thank you.

Edit: I will be buying the Black system from Gritomatic with whichever one I choose.

Dear Mr. D DarkHorse25

You are making the right choice, maybe the reviews of Hapstone RS confused you but I assure you that the problem is simply in the tightening force and it is best to tighten the screw of the stone holder module directly on the guide shaft and you will never get a wedge;).
As for the choice of system, it all depends on the length of knives in your arsenal, if you have knives over 230mm then the choice is obvious you should choose the R2 series. If you don't have any knives like that, I would go for the Hapstone RS series.

If you have any questions, I will be here to help you. 🎅 Merry Christmas!

Regards, Mario.
Hapstone!

I have the R2/V8 but not the RS. The reviews sure make the RS look like a good deal, especially if your work space is cramped.

The one thing I see that might make the R2 considerably better is that you can get the Rail Height Adjuster for it:

I do not know whether there is anything comparable for the RS.
The Rail Height Adjuster for the Hapstone RS has already been developed and will be released soon. ;)
