Deciding Between Sprints

Trying to decide on my “to me from me” Christmas gift...I have narrowed it down to:

1) PM2 52100/CF
2) P3 52100/CF
3) Manix 4V/CF
4) Benchmade 940-1 (but costly)
5) Police K390 (probably too big)

I currently own both a PM2 and a Manix 2 LW in S30V and 110V respectively, I want a different type of steel and am strongly leaning towards a carbon/tool steel, I also have a liking for CF.

Not a fan of the comp lock with flippers and don’t want any more S30V, I want something EDC friendly, good for general use such as cardboard and food prep (slicing mostly).

Thoughts on a good choice (and why) and any others I should consider?

Thanks for enabling my addiction!

If you like the Manix 2 you have, the 4v marbled cf is extremely sexy and different enough in my opinion.

Fixed blade for food for health reasons. If food gets caught in the pivot or handle area it can give you some nasty stuff next time you use it for food prep.

I would say pick a knife you dont own as well, give yourself even more variation.

I don't believe anything in 52100 would be the best for food prep, but I may be wrong. Mine started to stain rather quickly, so I forced a patina.

For food it's hard to beat the Sypdiechef.

The Phillips Kapara is new and neat but you say you don't want that steel or lock but you should still look at it.

Is there any texture on the 4V Manix marbled CF scales? I know the Manix has a lot of jimping but not sure about having totally slick scales.

Not worried about patina on 52100, I like how they naturally develop over time, my VToku and HAP40 knives all have clear demarcation for the non stainless part.

Interesting suggestion about the Knifeworks M4/CF PM2, unfortunately I don't see it on their site anymore so I guess it's sold out.

Any Manix with liners would probably get my first choice. That particular sprint is a little pricey in my opinion, but you get a really cool steel on a badass platform. My CruWear/Carbon Fiber exclusive was in my pocket today and it’s one that I’ll never part with. That’s actually the main reason I didn’t pick up the 4V/Marbled CF model myself, that and price. It’d be between that and the 940-1 if I were choosing.

I actually owned one of those for a time and wasn't that impressed, it was a CQI one too. The blade shape isn't very useful and it's really prone to scratching, deployment is also really not very convenient.

Which one?

I don't have the new one but I have a Spidiechef. It goes good for me for cutting and it flicks like all my others.

The scales are smooth, they are not slick. You note the jimping, my hand really locks into the handle shape, very secure grip.

After a few weeks of work carry, the 4V is not blowing my skirt up near as much as I'd hoped.

I was initially in the same boat, but after a few sharpenings it seems to hold an edge much better, maybe weaker steel st the factory apex? I’ve hit some metal with it and thought I would see a chip in the edge but it seems to be tough.

I'm hoping that will be the case. I could definately see the edges getting hot during edge grinding, having spent several hours reprofiling with the 50 grit on the KME reprofiling.
