Hey guys/gals

My name is Derek, first started thread here on BF. I'm apart of www.bayoushooter.com and a few FB sites and it was about time I stopped lurking and paid a subscription for the amount of knowledge I've gained from searching old threads.

To the point though, I'm looking into a super cqc7 or a super commander. We have no local shops in my area that handles emerson knives so I cannot personally handle one. Mu question lies in, how much bigger in hand is the cqc 7? I see pictures but I know those can be misleading. How does it feel, I should ask, compared to the standard cqc 7?

Thanks in advance!

why do you want a super of either? Are these your first emersons?

This is my opinion on both..first I should meantion I am a fan of both the 7's and the commander.. I have several versions in both the 7 and commander.. the commander being my favorite emerson design above all other Emersons!

The super commander. The blade is a tiny bit bigger than the regular commander, but the grips is much bigger.

So what I think you are getting more out of these is the grip size than blade length.

I tend to go for the models with a better blade to grip ratio. But that is just me. If I had huge hands like Andre the Giant I would definitely go for either one.

If I had to choose one- I would pick the CQC-7 because the Commander blade has not increased that much compared to a regular commander blade.. whereas the Super 7 has a thicker grip and wider blade in comparision to the grip length. So I would prefer the super 7 over the super commander more.

No sir, I have a few emersons including the commander and the cqc 7. I prefer the cqc 7 but like the commanders size...However I like larger folders as I wear cargo pants to work and can accommodate just about anything under 5" with ease.

The blade on the 7 is my only gripe, bc it is a little undersized to me. But from what you say that shouldn't be a problem with the super.

Thank you, sir!

I feel that the commander is perfect blade to handle in both the standard and mini. I also agree that the standard CQC-7 has a kind of small blade to handle ratio. A super 7 would be awesome. Actually a super 7 blade with SOFCK handle would be whats up.

This is no doubt an interesting thread, you guys addressed many of my questions and concerns also. I will say I was a tad surprised when I actually handled The7 for the first time. Smaller than I thought...though I knew the measurements - - I wasn't prepared for (IMO) lack of blade size width wise. The7's width at its greatest height is only 15/16 of an inch...and that is only at that exact spot - it then quickly reduces in size.

It seems from reading this thread that the Super7 would have fulfilled my thinking better. I did make note of the Commander also.:-)

Derek, I have large hands and own a regular 7 and a Super Commander. I used to own a regular Commander but gave it away. I really like the larger handle on the SC because it fits by big hands quite nicely. That being said, I like the grip on my regular 7 -- I don't get it (b/c it's smaller yet fits my hand) but the seven's grip just works for me.

That said, I have a large employee (with huge hands) who is looking to get an Emerson and he tried my 7 and my SC. He really liked the feel of the SC but didn't care for the feel of the 7.

My point is that I would suggest you try out the different grips, in hand, prior to spending a lot of hard-earned money on an Emerson knife. You want to be happy with your purchase so I think you should be patient and wait until you know you're going to be happy with your choice. Just my .02.
