Hey all! This is my first post in the ESEE forum... even though RAT Cutlery is the reason why I found this forum to begin with!

I saw pictures of a wonderful little neck knife a long time ago... the only thing I remembered was the I loved the shape, and the skeletoned handle (and that the name had to do with an ant).. so after some researching, including some on this forum, I ended up with a bunch of Izulas (a few as gifts), a couple of 5's (one each for me and the gf), and a 6.

You know you're addicted to ESEE knives when you give your girlfriend a pink Izula wrapped in navy paracord for her b-day :D

I've been looking at the 3-mil's and 4's (and maybe eventually the Junglas), and have been teetering back and forth between the two... and would love to hear from you guys about whether you'd get the 3-mil next or the 4.

(3 does seem to be a little more carry-friendly, with a lot of standards being "blade <4 inches")

What are your thoughts?

Well if you want a knife to carry go with the 3. I have tried to carry the 4 but its a tad too big imo. If you just want a good camp/trail knife go with the 4.

Since you already have the larger ones, I'd go 3MIL.

The 4 was my first is a great "middle of the road" blade. Light enough to carry, but strong enough for heavier work.

I'd go with the ESEE 3 MIL. It's a great blade that's large enough to do anything you might need to do, but short enough to still EDC it.

I really love my new Orange G-10 RC-3, i carry it everywhere since i got it.
I'm thinking about buying a ESEE 3 MIL too and a ESEE-4 Orange G-10 too & a ESEE-6 & a Junglas :D

I think i love these ESEE-Rowen with their Perfect Grind Lines.

The ESEE 4 is a great knife all around and a standard size bushcraft/survival knife, a must have. The 4 will do everything the 3 will but has a little more capability and strength. If you decide to get the Junglas soon you will have a do everything set of tools. Either way you will still have a knife and that is way ahead of the game in itself.

Consensus seems to be 3-mil for starters! I forgot to mention my HEST too, does that change anything? :P

Just to make sure, the only differences between the regular 3's and the 3-mil's are the handle material and the sharpened pommel, right?

The desert tan RC-3 has canvas micarta scales as well, and you can get it without the pointed pommel. I love mine!

not to be contrary, but since you have a hest & Izula for EDC, I'd go with the -4.
That extra inch doesn't sound like much, but it's a world of extra usefulness out in the dirt & trees over a 3" blade.

You know you're going to get both so don't sweat it. Just pick one.

3MIL comes with molle back AND molle locks also.

That's true, I guess

How much of a difference do you guys feel between the feel of the HEST vs the 3? (aside from the pry bar or bottle opener thing, like feel of the blade, handle, etc)

Someone will comment on that soon I'm sure, the HEST is the only blade I've not had much interest in.

I have had three Izula's and a RC 3. Just got a Mil as well and have not felt that I needed a ESEE4 as they have all worked fine for what I was using them for. For a general EDC tool I think one or the other is about perfect. A 4 may be more 'suitable' for the bush but I have not needed one yet. I guess that I may have to buy one and see what folks are on about!

If you plan on getting the RC-6 later on; try the RC-3. If you are going to just get one, get the RC-4 for a camping & woods trail knife.

By how you describe your wonderful ESEE addiction like most of us here have!get which ever one you want most at this moment because it sounds like you will have them all before to long! I LOVE IT!!!!

I think this is what I may do..... clip-point 3-mil now, green 4 w/ orange handles later... and Junglas after later :P

Sounds good. I love my ESEE-3.

I just wanted to give you a lil heads up, though. I do believe that the clip point models have a sharpened clip. If you intend to EDC it, make sure double edged blades aren't a problem where you live.
