I recently picked up a XM18 3.5” wharncliff from the exchange and am REALLY impressed with it. I think I’m going to sell of a couple knives to fund a slicer grind no-choil 3.5”.

Should I look for the regular or the skinny? Use will be edc, carry for my law enforcement job (no prying though, hopefully), outdoor use, back up to my primary blade for hunting, and prepping food.

I’m not going to abuse it, but is the tip on the skinny overly fragile? How would the skinny likely fit my xl sized hand?

Should I look for the regular or the skinny? Skinny. You already have a regular.

I’m not going to abuse it, but is the tip on the skinny overly fragile? No. I'd say the wharncliffe tip is probably more fragile than a skinny slicer's. If you intend to use it as a slicer it'll be just fine.

How would the skinny likely fit my xl sized hand? How does the regular fit? Do you need to use the choil? If not, it'll fit like a glove.

Regular...

Just drop the prepping food, gonna be a bit less slicey than the skinny.

As LEO, as I'm sure you're aware, you never know what is going to be required of your EDC gear on any given day...

Go big or go home!

Stay safe out there.

either will be plenty strong IMHO ... the skinny of course will be a slightly better slicer ... I wear an XL glove and I prefer the feel of the regular but it is just that I believe a "personal preference" ... I don't dislike the skinny by any means ... and I don't feel enough difference in size or weight carrying either in my pocket to make a difference. If you are wanting to customize it at all (scales or hardware) the regular currently gives you a lot more options over a skinny.

Thanks all. Just to clarify, I plan to sell the Wharnie if I get a slicer, I can’t justify having two ridiculously expensive user knives.

I also don’t intend to customize it at all. Leaning towards the skinny at this point but I wouldn’t pass on a deal on either.

Made a move and picked up a no-choil skinny slicer gen 6 on the exchange. By far the most I’ve spent on a knife before. Gave $385 as it came with both a g10 and micarta scale.

Should be in tomorrow. I’ll be using it a lot, starting with a late season elk hunt Sunday.

Got it yesterday. Put in the phosper bronze washers and am loving it. The micarta scale is great as well.

Dual deployment, great jimping, and non-deep carry so I can extract it quicker from my vest at work. Exactly what I was looking for in a knife. Cuts great too. Feels made for my XL sized hands.
