To those of you who responded to my request for opinions - THANK YOU!!
Before coming to the BF, I did not know anything about knives and have learned so much thanks to all your posts and the archives. I want to learn even more.
I have decided to go with a BM942 and a BM170 instead of a (large) Sebbie, for the time being. Since I am a knife dunce, and BM is decent for the money, these will be my knives to learn from and make mistakes with. That is, to learn how to properly sharpen, to use hard, and to learn what I really want out of knives.
Meanwhile, I will be saving $ for the Sebbie, or whatever is the next step in the next year or so. When I buy the next knives, if I do, these go to the kids.
My strategy is to match my knowledge with the quality of knives that I own. It is going to be though, because so many knives tempt you to buy them.
The steel is addictive.
Thanks again!
