OK all - been reading a lot of the threads and they've be extremely informative and now I need to pick your collective brains. I'm looking for a folder and I've narrowed it down to the the following two;

Doug Ritter RSK MKI w/serrated edge

OR

Benchmade Griptillian w/serrated edge

The price isn't the issue, I just want opinions on which is better. I did find (from this site) the Cabela's D2 steel version of the Griptillian, so if I go with that one, which do you guys recommend the D2 or the 154CM?

I want the best quality/performance for this price range that I can get, so any and all opinions/advice will be welcome.

Thanks,
Halfbreedinkc

(P.S. I know there are a lot of Spyderco fans out there - they're just not my "cup of tea" - I've never liked the design/feel. Not saying they're bad knives in any way, I'm just not comfortable with them...and as I used to tell customers when I worked in the gun biz, if you aren't comfortable with it, you won't carry it = waste of money)

I have the D2 Griptillian and the 154CM Griptillian and a couple of S30V knives. I prefer the D2 Grip (carry it every day). I never carry the 154cm, mainly because it is serrated and I do not like serrated blades. The Ritter Grip is a much deeper blade, which I like. If cost is not a decision point, I say the Ritter Grip.

Ok let me ask you this then - between the two steels, which would you recommend? The D2 or the 154CM (serrated not-withstanding).

The difference between the Griptilian and the mini-Griptilian is a matter of how comfortable you are with the size. They are the same knife otherwise, and your hand is the best judge of which you will prefer.

D2 and 154-CM are both excellent steels. I have had excellent service from my D2 blades and I am partial to them. 154-CM has been around a while in some very successful knife lines. It is a solid performer, too. I doubt you could tell the difference in normal use, or the difference from the S30V of the Ritter Grip.

The Ritter Grip introduced a different blade shape, which appeals to many people. I think the Ritter blade is an improvement. The original Griptilian's modified drop point is an effective blade shape, too, so that's just a matter of personal preference.
