My wife and I are heading to the western states for a 5 or 6 month camping/sightseeing/friend and relative visiting adventure. Besides taking my Fallkniven F1, Leatherman, Spyderco Paramilitary and Busse Active Duty (my all time favorite EDC), I need to make a decision between a Ratmandu and a Bravo 1 in A2 as my heavy duty, batoning all-around camp knife. Space is at a premium and I can't take both, they are both brand new and I need your help deciding. Thanks.

Take the Bravo 1. They are heavy duty and are well built, not to mention small enough to stay out of the way for the most part. Enjoy your trip, it sounds like a great time!

Is there really much your Bravo 1 could do that the Fallkniven F1 can't? I'v used my F1 pretty hard, but never owned a Bravo 1. I was always thought that they pretty much filled the same niche? So I guess I'm wondering if you cant just bring the 2 you like best out of the Rat/ Bark river/ Fallkniven? All 3 of those are good, solid knives and I can't see any of them letting you down at camp.

Maby Bring the F1 and a larger fixed blade?

The F1 is relegated to kitchen duty and I can't really see pounding it to split wood for what could be hundreds of fires. The blade is a bit short. I am sure the Ratmandu and Bravo 1 could both handle any task I throw at them. I don't want to bring both. The one I don't bring I will give to my son for his birthday.

You've got a bunch of small blades already. I'm not familiar with the Ratmandu but I'd take whichever one is larger.

Great Idea! Decision made! I'm going to buy a small camp ax, take the Bravo 1 for trail time and the Rantmandu is going to my son. Everyone is happy.
