so I am getting a reimbursement coupon from Boker to replace the defective Stag Barlow that i purchased...

so now i have to decide what i want to replace it
since I am not sure what the exact MSRP is at this time (bought it from amazon) the exact model may change when it comes to handle material etc etc

I am thinking i would like to pick up

trapperliner (SS only)
copperliner (SS only)
copperhead (Carbon steel)
trapper (mini or full sized) (carbon steel)

i dont have any of these patterns (which is why i wanted to try something new) so I am not sure which would be enjoyed the most...

so what experiences do folks have with these patterns, which would recommend and most importantly why?

ps i would LOVE To try a peanut, but boker doesnt appear to make any peanut patterns :grumpy:

I'd avoid the Copperliner. Blade too thick, sabre ground, nasty plastic opening stud, liner less than credible.....

Copperhead is an EXCELLENT sturdy well made knife, not my favourite pattern though.

All Bökers I own in carbon are very nicely turned out and surprising value. May I suggest two more? Whittler-very well made, and there's a carbon lockback that's slim and comes with admirable washboard Bone scales (others as well) very good knife indeed. They also make Canoes, Congress and Pen (maybe a substitute Peanut?) I find their stainless knives to be several notches down in quality comp to their carbon efforts.

I'm going to vote for the copperhead. They do a good job with them.

they do have a gorgeous pen knife with stag scales i noticed last night
so copperhead has gotten 2 thumbs up...hrm Not hugely familiar with the pattern, they are two clip blades, but different. interesting pattern thats for sure

My Böker Copperhead has nail nicks on same side, Clip with longpull and Skinner with nail nick.

could you clarify some on this? not sure which model your referring to (got a catalogue here, just not sure if its the newest version)

Can't exactly say where I obtained it-against forum rules - but it was last year on an on-line auction. It's a recent model. 140 Jahre on shield so that's 2009, firm started in 1869.

Single carbon blade, Böker Germany. Barehead (single bolster) lockback with 5 pins, Amber brown 'Washboard Bone' scales.

Length around 11cm/4.25" closed, weight 106 grammes. No camera, can't photo anything but I'm sure a search will show you the knife.

actually Willgoy i think i found it

Boker Fellow Redbone

carbon steel blade, 3 1/4 inch blade, overall length 7 1/2 inches. 3.6 ounces (not sure what that works out to in gram's) 5 pins

i saw it, and i do like it, its at the high end of the expected msrp so i am not sure if i can choose it yet or not. But i would agree, it looks really nice!

I have been delighted with the quality from all of Boker's recent carbon steel traditional pocketknives. The beer barrel wood is unique, but very lightweight. Bought a trapper for a gift last year and the quality was far beyond what is indicated by price.

Have you seen the grenadil handled folders? It's a very dense black wood that looks incredible. I have both a pen knife and stockman, and the quality of each is outstanding.
