Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a new EDC to fit into a role as a functional but still reasonably discreet rural EDC/roadtripping blade. I love my TGLB to bits but its just too big for carry outside of camping and woods trips and the AD I have now is a touch on the small side. Looking for a Busse or 'kin blade in the 4"-5.5" blade range. So far I've narrowed it down to four, but I'm open to more suggestions:

  • Leaner Meaner
  • BATAC LE
  • Ratmandu
  • SAR 5

Any suggestions on the best blade for the job? An Anniversary LE Meaner may be a possibility too but the blade shape just isn't grabbing me as much as the others.

Can't go wrong with any of those. I am a HUGE Leaner fan so that would be my blade. The Ratmandu would be a very close second.

You have a great list of knives there! Let all of us know what you decide!!!

AMS is good choice:thumbup:

but its smaller than what your looking for...

so, Id say LMS of ones you have listed for EDC

What about a Boss Street? Lots of flavours to choose from, fat, skinny, flat or hollow grind, choiled or not. Choilless Anorexic variety for me

I agree about a CABS or SCABS. The LMS would be great and on my list as well. You certainly couldn't go wrong with an RMD either!!! Especially if you could pick up a CS variant with a FFG. Perfection!!!

All are great choices. Having owned a LMS, CABS (2), RMD (6 or 7) and an SAR5 I would first choose the CABS, RMD then LMS.
Best of luck on your choice you can't go wrong with either one.

Good advice on the CABS, that looks like it would fit all of my requirements quite well. The lack of a choil leaves that much more cutting edge on the smaller blade too.

As for the larger of the two options, which do you folks prefer: BATAC or Ratmandu?

I like the RMD much better. The BATAC is very handle heavy where as the RMD is more nuetral.

You could look at getting HRLM as well. RMD's handle with shorter drop point blade.

The flat rmd as stated ^

The .27" batac is not for edc imo. Its a lot of weight. Strip a cg @ .187" and its good.:)

Personally I love the Leaner Meaner. But like already stated, there isn't a bad one on your list. Be sure to post pics once you get something in hand.

Tough one...

I've never held a Ratmandu, but it would be my first choice. I'm always of the mindset of, "If I don't like it and would rather have something else, I could always sell it".

The CABS looks like a good choice too... Damnit, this is why I hate making decisions...

Awesome avatar, btw

The smallest/thinnest I'd be willing to go for a one knife carry is a Scrap Yard War Dog or Scrapper 5 SE/LE.

My strong recommendation would be a choilless Boss Jack (Proto or Combat Grade). Despite the all-around utility value, they are also VERY easy to carry compared to knives like an ASH-1 or SAR 6. About as good as it gets for a belt knife IMO, but YMMV as always.

RMD has been one of my favorites for a while. Handle is very comfortable, and the choil is awsome for smaller stuff.

Of the blades you have listed, RMD!!! With it you will get one of the best all arounds to come from Busse Land, pure and simple. Strong, comfortable and holds a great edge. I love the BATAC-LE but if your going to pack it around on your belt then I'd say the RMD for sure. After just a little while it will become such a part of you, you want even know it's there.

Leaner Meaner or Anniversary MS, is what I would go with.
