So in the coming months I plan to buy my next knife. I want a fixed blade with a blade length around 5". It would be for bushcraft/survival type tasks. Stainless steel is preferred but not necessary. I already have a BK-7, Esee 4, and USMC Kabar.

The following is what I am considering:
  • Falkniven S1
  • Blackjack Halo Attack 13
  • Esee 6
  • Bark River Bravo 1.5
  • Sog Force (Plain Edge)
  • BK-10 (Once it comes out)
  • Bark River Aurora

Could I get some help here? Has anyone heard anything about the Halo Attack or the Sog Force?

Note: Trying to keep it >$200

Ontario Blackbird SK5 might be a good one for the list. No personal experience but looks like a nice all round blade.

Of the ones you list, the Fallkniven S1. Of the ones you don't, check out the Bark River Aurora.

I have looked into the SK5 before. The one thing that has turned me off about it was the looks, I think it looks god-awful. I dont doubt its a substantial blade though.

I'd wait for the bk10. Thats what i'm doin my ownself.

I'd also add the bk2 to your list. For me, any fixed blade purchase is between an ESEE or a Becker. Can't go wrong with either.

How much does the strider run (I'm in class or else I would look it up)? In the above list I meant the Bravo 1.5. It looks like a sweet blade. Gunny is a little bit small for my need though. I am looking for something a bit bigger than a Esee 4 and something relatively light.

To answer your question re: the Halo Attack, USA-made Blackjack knives are manufactured by Bark River.

I have shied away from the bk-2. Its a little bit thick and too heavy for its size in my opinion. I already have a BK7 and it weighs less (pretty sure) and has a better reach and keener edge.

I may wait for the 10, it looks like a quality piece. The sheath should be better than the 7.

I guess that's where personal taste comes in. I happen to like the simplicity of it's design and plain blade shape.

True, to each their own. I dont doubt its a functional knife. Ontario has some good economical knives. I hope to eventually get an RTAK II as sort of like a Junglas substitute lol.
