Yup...darn near a thousand posts, and I still post these damn "help me choose" threads. Cain't help it. Get some good advice and see some interesting options that way. Sometimes just plain hilarious responses too.
Anyhoo, I'm hankerin' for a new knife. Debating between:
Microtech LCC D/A- This one's nice looking and gettin' scarce. The auto is just an extra kick in. Very nice lookin', well made. available in S30V which is a plus. On the down side they are fairly beefy lil' rascals. Also may be a bit too pointy in the tip.
Microtech Manual Socom- Had a Socom Auto, loved it, sold it off in a fit of idiocy. good fit, nice size. Not sure about the point (again) and I'm not a tip down kinda guy. (no need to advise of impalement dangers, I've heard...)
Microtech Amphibian (manual) Once again, very nice looking, good wide blade that looks like it would slice like hell. Also has a beefier tip that could be nice. Also, is the manual version of this thing plunge lock, or liner lock?
MOD Trident (auto)- Pluses are EXCELLENT customer service from MOD in the past, beefy tip, and thin easy to carry knife. Also like the cryogenically treated blade, and I do believe it makes a difference. Also, since most MOD autos are liner lock, you can take the auto mechanism out of the knife and it's still a manual. Not as slick as the LCC D/A but nice. Something I've done before and liked pretty well as an option.
Notice the tip strength thing...I don't ask much of a knife tip, really I don't, but...I do like to at least be able to open a bottle of beer with it. I also like higher grinds more so that lower ones. Tend to favor knives that fit big forepaws as well.
Hope to have some input from folks who own these. Thanks!
