Well, it's time for me to finally buy a fixed blade knife. I've narrowed it down to a RAT, however I've been having difficulty deciding which one to get.

I've been considering the HEST, the RC4, and the RC5.

The knife will serve as an all around knife for me...biking, hiking, camping, and other general goofing around outdoors. Most of my outdoors activity is pretty tame...mostly short weekend type of stuff.

Anyways, I've read a lot and the more I read the harder the decision gets. I've come to the conclusion that the RC5 might be overkill...

Anyways, comments are welcome!

The HEST is cool. But as you will buy more than one RAT, once bitten you can just as well buy an RC-4 ... and you need an Izula or two (or [insert number of you packs and bags here])

You're right, the RC-5 would be a bit much for biking. The 4 would be best for overall general use and camping. The hest would be a little shorter for daily carry but the 4 can be carried daily with no problems. It's a very slim package with the kydex sheath. The RC-4 is a great knife. Look at the poll "If you could only own one Rat cutlery blade."

Agreed that RC-5 is overkill. I'm thinking for yourself that the Hest or the RC-3 would be best for your purposes though.

I would say the RC-4 but I find myself using my Izula quite a bit since it is so easy to carry.

Take a look a the poll thread thats in progress. You will see what the favorite RC knife is. I voted RC4!
