I recently acquired this machine and am looking for a users manual. Anyone have one or a copy of one I could either buy or copy? These machines are used for interframe inlays, etc.

Hi John, that could be a really useful machine tool. When I was serving my apprenticeship I worked in a mold shop that had a deckel.I was put on it for about 2 months roughing cavity for a rack & pinion mold.We used single fluted carbide e-mills on the business side and of course a probe of varying dia. on the model side.I don't have access to a manual but might be able to answer a question if you had one. Also I think I remember Jeff Higgins saying he had some experience with deckel's(I think he has ran every machine tool known to man) and could also probably help you.I found a manual for an old B&S Surface Grinder at this link here , www.machinerymanuals.com . They have thousands available and might be able to find you one if need be,they are pricey, but when it is your only source I guess it is worth it.

Thanks David: I found the manual on your given site. $$$ but necessary as I don't really have a clue. I'm guessing that if I make a rather large, say 5times bigger than intended,, to scale pattern and reduce,....my smaller inlay will fit five times closer than the pattern???? Correcto? UMMMM I have a lot to learn.

You're thinking is correct as long as the ratio is correct.Rigidity isn't one of the deckel's strong points, that being said, they are still capable of amazing accuracy once you get the feel for it. Sitting down close to the machine tool, tucking the control arm up like you would shoulder a rifle, and moving at your hips rather than stretching with your arms will yield more rigidity and closer tolerances too.I hope I am talking about the same type of deckel that you have :foot: ,I'm sure there are many style's.I have only used one,so my experience is limited, just trying to help :)
