On Plaza Cutlery's site they have posted this beauty, anyone see it in person at their recent show?

Will there be a new steel in use soon, or is this a special project? Spill, Dave!

As much as I like the Umnumzaan and enjoy CRKs work, the asking price for such mundane embellishments (i.e., drilled divots, anodized divots / slab grooves, and a mystery steel blade) is :( .

I agree; the asking price seems very greedy to me, but if they can find a buyer that's what it's all about I guess.

I love my Sebenza's, but have never been drawn to the ones embellished by the extra CNC work, with the exception of a few of the simpler ones (dog paws, 9/11, etc). For that asking price I'd opt for a woody or damascus instead.

Very , very nice collector piece that im sure will only go up in value. Another great job from the good folks at CRK.

It looks nice but I'm not sure a near 400% markup really makes since for simple blade change and anodized embelleshments. Unless it is some super steel never before seen, it I doubt that.

I believe it's not about the steel as such but about FIRST CRK folder with that "new" steel and FIRST decorated Umnum ever. It's about the number :)

Wonder if its that new 60 NiTiNinol PM like what Mick used on a few knives. After all they were both in tight with Crucible steel.

I read the ad and, to me, it looks like Chris Reeve is going to be switching steels soon. That certainly peaks my interest. I've got a bg-42 and some s30v, I can't help but wonder whats coming next.

I've been on the fence about getting the Umnumzaan since I handled one at Blade 2008, It really felt good in the hand but over the past year or so I've been leaving the large seb at home in favor of the small. A smaller size Umnumzaan would be sweet. I'll be watching the forums closely for news of a steel switch, that will probably be enough to get me to pull the trigger.

And of course I couldn't post without a plea to "Bring back the Umfaam!!!"

Later Gdwtvb

If it is 60 NiTiNOL it would be worth holding off for. If someone here bought one of the "mystery steel" Unums can you tell us if the blade is magnetic?
