DeCuerdas Eskrima

Richard Van Donk is full of it, he is not the sole inheritor of the style. :jerkit:

GM Gilbert Tenio's son, Grandmaster Richard Tenio seems to be authorizing a lot of people to create their "own style" based on a lot of his father's teachings.

Sadly it appears that it's being converted to a "McFMA".

McFMA = Term I created on the spot to describe crap mass-marketed versions of FMA. Similar to McDojo (Crap mass-marketed karate/taekwondo).

From what I understand DeCuerdos is of the Angel Cabales lineage, originally so it has a solid base, but shifty folks like VanDonk have begun to promote their own versions of it.

its a great forum for martial arts alot of interesting posts and information there on various martial arts

I trainied for a while with Master Jaime "Jimmy" Tacosa (one of the first disciples of GM Cabales) and he told me the same. He showed a little of the de cuerdas and I think it is a simple but very functional and powerfull stick-fighting-system.

On the other hand GM Angel Cabales son, GM Vincent Cables, don`t know the de cuerdas as part of his fathers system!?

I've had some training in it. One instructor trained with Van Donk and then Gilbert Tenio in the early 1990s, and the other was from SLD (Serrada, Largo Mano, DeCuerdas.)

IMO it is a good system, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it is the best FMA. IMO one's specific style of FMA isn't that important as long as you train properly.
