My new favorite recent fixed blade purchase is definitely this Russian DED Universal M (Ironwood/crazy fiber micarta/stainless steel bolster & ~5" Elmax FFG blade):

It feels like a steal for the <$200 I paid for it. The "crazy fiber micarta" looks like coral from any kind of distance, I quite like it. The FFG 3.5mm thick blade and nicely contoured handle result in it being a comfortable knife that cuts well. So far I'm super pleased with this purchase.

Beauty. I’ve looked at those too. Appears very versatile. There’s a lot of nice knives coming out of Russia.

Using what I've learned on this forum I only baton with folders--usually only with a Spyderco Dragonfly in ZDP-189--so I haven't tried with this guy yet.

That said, I'd expect it batons as well as any other 1/8th inch thick FFG Elmax blade would.
