A week ago, I went to check my mail at work after completing my morning class. There was a small padded mailer in my box, and it looked like the sort of envelope that we often use for knives. But I wasn't expecting any knives. The return address gave me no clues, nor did the name listed there ring any bells. Being able to "play detective" for only so long, I whipped out my Minichamp and slit the mailer open. Inside was a striking GEC #72 and a thoughtful note from none other than Dee (GuestWho101)!!:cool::) (Kind of a mystery how Dee managed to come up with my address, but I suspect there may have been some shenanigans involving an Asimovian robot. ;))

The knife is model 721116, a Cody Scout lockback in OD green canvas micarta. I'd never seen a 72 in person, and had somehow formed the impression that the 72 was quite a gargantuan knife. But it's a VERY pocketable size at 3 7/8 inches closed. Gotta show you this beauty!

In my limited previous experiences with lock backs whose release mechanism is back at the butt of the knife, I've often struggled with releasing the blade when ready to close the knife. But this 72 from Dee operates smooth as butter! The canvas micarta looks fantastic to me as it declares that the knife is meant to be used! I'm still deciding what I want to do with the lanyard tube, but I hope by Monday I'll have some kind of fob or even full-size lanyard in there. Dee had already put a nice patina on the blade:

His note expressly stated that he hoped I'd use the knife in the kitchen to help cut up the ingredients for the meals that have occasionally snuck into a few of my photos. I did my best to oblige last Saturday at lunchtime:

Thanks a million, Dee, for introducing me to this exceptional pattern!:cool::thumbsup:

I should note that this sort of behavior seems to be characteristic of Dee. Here are some earlier threads highlighting his thoughtful generosity:

Fantastically well done bit of sneakery, GuestWho101 GuestWho101 ! Gary, you're well deserving of such a fine knife, and your write up it proof. Instead of saying "Thanks!" you provide thoughtful commentary about this knife, your previous experience with similar knives, and the kind of detailed examination and thoughts of the future that (as an inspector, professionally) I really appreciate. You even cooked a daggum meal with it already! Good on ya, the both of ya's.

In my short time here, both Dee and Gary have shown both their friendship and knowledge. So it's no surprise that that the both of you would be involved in what has become an aspect of BF that is rarely found elsewhere. Good for you Dee and well deserved to you Gary.

Thanks a lot, fellas!
I really appreciate the kind words.

Happy to see you enjoying your gift my friend. :)
It's well deserved.
Gentleman like yourself make the porch the wonderful place that it is.

Well done sir :) That's a beautiful knife GT, and you're a deserving recipient my friend :) Look forward to seeing more of that one

Good on you Dee.:cool: Hey Gary remember what I said about never missing a knife given away in your GAW thread? Great Karma to a great guy a even better replacement before you even ship.
