My souvenir from Australia, finished!

When I was working in Australia I ordered a knife from Dee Hedges, and asked her to put as much "Australia" in the knife as possible. Gold nuggets, Red Mallee Burl, snakeskin, old iron parts from a mine...

This is the result:

Dee has become a Journeyman Smith on the last Bladeshow.

Wonderfully executed based on your request, Jos. Really like it!

I had the opportunity to talk with Dee several times at Blade this year. The article Wally Hayes wrote in Blade magazine accurately portrays what she went through. It was nerve wracking to witness. It was also great seeing so many putting forth effort to help make her test happen.

Dee is a talented maker and very engaging. Here's a pic I took of her and my main man Wally at the show. This was post testing and a much relieved Dee.

I like it.
Especially since the design reflects nicely on your request for an "Australia" theme.

The gold nuggets are cool and add a kind of "earthy" or natural look along with the old iron and snake-skin sheath.

Congrats to you and Dee.

A question, what purpose does the loop at the tip of the sheath serve?

Ok That is very cool love the nugget on the butt cap would love to see close up of gold.

It's just another way of including "story" or "history" in the piece. It's an antique chain-link from the Western Australian goldfields, and serves as a tie loop.

I must say I'm very pleased with how it turned out, and the communication with Dee has also been great.

Kind regards,

Jos

Nice work Dee! I like the rustic look with a such a refined touch, looking forward to seeing more of your blades. Thanks for sharing Jos.
