Deep Carry Pocket Clip for Karambits?

Love this forum! Wanted to ask if anyone is familiar with a deep carry clip for a karambit. I have a Spyderco C84P and C170G, both karambits, that i love to carry, except for the fact that the ring is protruding so much out of my pocket. i think a deep carry clip would be good, but it would have to be about 1.5" deep in pocket. I've been searching for something suitable, but no luck yet. Any guidance from this community is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

The goal of every folding karambit that I have ever seen is to put the mounting holes for the knife lower than the ring so that the user can access the knife by the ring and pull it out of pocket. Not many folding karambits offer a change from that configuration. The only production one folding karambit that I know of that will allow a "deeper" carry is the Fox Knives FX-490 Chiroptera Karambit. [I routinely carry and recommend this knife.]

It allows for a deeper carry by having a four position pocket clip carry. The position that you would have to use with it would be "tip down" carry. The ring would sit in your pocket and you would pull it out like any other tip down carry knife. If you want an idea of how deep a knife will sit, visually note how much of the knife is exposed above the drill holes for the pocket clip.

Come to think of it, the C84P that you have might be tip up/tip down carry, though I don't see a square insert for the clip on the other screw. If it had one, you could unscrew your clip from one end and put it on the other side near the blade, like I can with my Chiroptera and draw it with the ring down. You aren't as fortunate with the C170G, it only does tip up for sure.

With the two folding models that you have, the clip sizes do not really matter with regard to how low they sit. The ring is going to show in tip up carry because of where the holes are and unless you are going to have the holes re-tapped higher on both knives [wouldn't suggest doing that], there is nothing that you can do about it.
Hope that wasn't too much info at once, and I hope it helps.

Karambits are cool.

thanks so much for the info XxFULLPOWERxX! was disheartened that no one seemed to have any input on my question. definitely get the benefit from having the ring above the pocket, but i want to carry it more discretely. currently have a deep carry clip on the C170P that only leaves about half of the ring exposed. was trying to figure out how to post a pic of the modification so you can see how i have it set up currently but couldn't figure out how to attach it. would like to have it just about .5" lower, but it will do until i get to try out that method with the used saw blades that an ingenious member of this forum shared. regardless of how low in the pocket it is, i find that i'm not any slower deploying blade when i can get my thumb inside of the pocket and hook and pull up until the ring is exposed.

didn't consider changing to tip down carry on the C84P, probably won't want to configure it that way, so that will be more of a utility knife, instead of an EDC, unfortunately.

again, thanks for help!

The only thing I can think of that wouldn't get in the way when using the ring would be to drill and tap the knife in such a way that a clip can be placed running parallel to one side of the ring. If what you like about kerambits is the hawkbill blade but aren't too keen on the ring, then you might be better off getting a hawkbill folder with a clip you like (Spyderco has several models).

You're new. Where are my manners? Welcome to Bladeforums!

Pictures would definitely help with the issues that you are describing. Not many are folding karambit fans on this forum, but there are people who have some experience with them. You might get a few others with more experience into what you mean than I. There are also custom knife makers/modifiers about as well. Maybe one of them can help you out or suggest something more suitable to you, if you don't want to change what you're carrying.

Anyway, keep checking the thread OP, one of them is bound to come along and see it eventually.

Franciscomv,

Thanks for the suggestion! Please pardon the delay. Just thought about this post just now and wanted to check out if there were any further responses. I didn't consider tapping elsewhere on the knife. that would actually be pretty simple with both Spyderco's. Gonna give that a try this afternoon. Really appreciate the advice.

XxFULLPOWERxX,

Thanks for the warm welcome! :) Please pardon the delay, didn't notice responses. Haven't been able to figure out how to post an image that may explain better. Clicked on "" below and still not quite sure how to do it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks again
