Deep Pocket Carry Clip for Kershaw Skyline

Posted this in the makers forum, but wanted to know what the general
knife nuts thought of this clip design.

The idea was a deep pocket carry clip that utilized the stock mounting
positions for the G10 scales. That way you can switch between the deep
clip and the stock clip should you ever change your mind.

The new clip does require longer screws, but other than that no modification
needs to be done to the knife.

Do you guys think if there were say "aftermarket" parts for knives such
as this there would be a market/interest in it? I've seen custom parts
for knives, but not really produced on any grand scale or by the makers
themselves.

I think you may be onto something! That looks pretty good for a rough draft. Some lighter steel would make for a nice clip!

Wouldn't the mounting hardware being on the side that touches your leg be bothersome? I like the idea but it seems like it'd be a pain.

I think I'll have to implement that idea on my OD-1. It has been relegated to kitchen duty because I just never liked the way it carried. It does work well as a kitchen utility knife though.

I will be testing it out today for this and let you know. I would ideally want
to flush mount the screws, but the material is very thin. We'll see how it
works today.

Maybe a close up of the mounting hardware?
You can't really see it in the pic's you posted.

Here are some pics. Not really up close. Ideally I'd want to flush mount
the screws or at least use more low profile screws. These were what were
available at the time. To flush mount I'd have to countersind the clip, but
since there is not much material it's hard to do without risking the integrity
and fit of the clip. I'll probably trim down a little more of this side to make
the lines flow more with the knife and clean it up a bit.

Also in carrrying it I don't feel the screws in my side/leg at all. The
pants seem to provide enough cushoning, and it is not held tight against
my pants. But I guess this would depend on the type of pants you wear.
Mine are usually a little looser.

Nice, what kind of steel did you use? Spring? I was going to try something like that but I could not find metal with enough "spring" to it.

It's banding steel, not sure what exactly what it is, though a fellow maker
said it's usually made of 1095 Tool steel. It's good stuff. Doesn't require
heat treat to get the spring to it according to p moore who sent it to me.
It is a bit on the thick side. I also have titanium which I would like to make
some clips out of.

Ya that looks very promising for a prototype!
Once you get some flush mounted screws & get the clip production down pat.I see no reason why people wouldn't buy one. I know I would

That is a great idea! I don't carry my skyline because the clip is so terrible. If someone was selling these and I could install one myself, I would totally buy it.

that being said, those screws should be flush so they don't rip up your pants. Looks good though! keep up the good work.

I'd definitely buy one of these if/when you start producing them to sell. That way, I'd run out of reasons not to EDC my Skyline.

I just happen to be very much in love with my kershaw skyline. I actually misplaced mine a few days ago because the clip was loose and it fell out of my pocket. Basically someone found it and decided they would keep it and they tightened up the torx screws with an Allen wrench and stripped them out. Later, they left it lying around and I found it and decided I'd reclaim it (I know my knife when I see it, we were made for each other). I decided I would do a search on the net and try to find some new torx screws for my knife and replaced the old ones. Can anyone help me there? Also, I happened to find this thread and I would definitely be interested in a few of these clips for my collection of skylines. Did these ever come to fruition? Anyone else out there love the skyline like I love mine?
