I got these huge antlers from a friend . Is this what you use for handles ? Are they are solid inside ? I need to know before I continue to argue with my daughter whether they will hang in her room or end up in my workshop for handles :D One more question , is this Potassium permanganate good for coloring or there is better way ?

Thanks  All I need to know is in that topic . I think I'll be fighting with my daughter about who will get them :)

Ya bet, looks like red deer sheds? Don't weaken, lots of knife handles there. Its a very popular knife handle for me, I sell a lot of elk handled knives.

I m not sure from which species deer they are .I will ask that my friend when i meet him .There was good story about how i get them ..............That friend have hunting house in middle of nowhere , and I pass there when I go fishing ...the worst mountain road a man can think of in an off road vehicle. It's lucky if a man comes home without some breakdown on off-road vehicle...So . i often stop there to take break and drink coffee/beer with him .His son is also hunter / wild boars/...... good kid , so two years ago I give to him knife I make for my self .It was from M42 steel with scale of best walnut I have ever found .Note , they use cheap hunting knives here ..most time unknown brand made God know where .You can imagine what an impression it leaves when from scrap knife you take in hand knife from steel like this and sharpened as razor ...he told me that they had skin eight large wild boar with that knife and it have still good edge / by their standards, for me it was dull..not clear cut in paper / and I resharpen it some day before this new year ...He brought it to me to make some sheath for knife :)
So as thanks he give me this antlers .They are hanging on wall in his hunting house for many years as far as I remember, maybe more then 20 years .Now I owe them one good fish.................. if I catch one:D
Thanks again

Make sure when you get them you let them age a little unless thy are sheds. Once you think thy are ready then remove all the pith from inside. It’s a spongy looking material that is not very stable. I use a lot of anther here is Washington state. I drill a 1/4” hole through the middle and then use a scraper to scrape it all out. It’s hard but spongy. Once you have your handle all hallowed out your set. Once ready I will completely fill with epoxy and set the blade in place and clamp.
