Well I've decided to go with a Busse for my EDC "deer hunting" knife. Mainly for caping out whitetails. I'm thinking 4" infi, but am open to all suggestions:thumbup:

The only one that comes to mind is the Cultellus.

First hand experience is a plus.

Thanks for your ideas, thoughts, and time.

I will be using my HOG Muk LE this fall... Should be amazing.

I have been using an ESEE-3mil (well an RC-3mil) for the past 2 years.
.

SS4 is a winner. Worked well for me last season...will be the go to this year as well!

Not a Busse, but I skinned a gator with a Lionsteel SR-1......worked great!!!!

CABS range. Awesome for the tasks you have in mind. I cant rate this knife enough. Muk should be a brilliant skinner. Have not tried mine yet.
But the CABS is a Deer hunters dream.

Used my CABS on three deer last year. It was awesome even thought I needed to carry it in a cardboard sheath in my pocket because it came in too close to season for my kydex sheath to arrive. I bought a second CABS early this spring because I plan on wearing out my first one.

I would say the Hog Muk LE or CABS:cool::thumbup:

Cultellus and Muk combo was my first thought. A Boney Active Duty would be good too. I've used my Active Duties for four years now and my Tank Buster the past 2 seasons.

I will be using my muk for deer this year, other busses in the size range that would be could are cabs, sar3, slut duty, or a game warden. Anything you choose will be the right choice!

Although I wish I could hold them all, this is one where doing so would help tremendously.

The Muk appears more geared for skinning.

CABS, SS4, Cultellus on the surface seem more versatile. I've even wondered if a B4 would suit my needs.

Edge/sharpness (critical for the final stages) I'm sure are similar with blade and ergonomics separating each knife.

Please keep any added thoughts and recommendations coming and thanks again for your time.

Another vote for the CABS. I love my Cultie as well but the choil can get hung up on things if you're not careful.

yeah- the choil is a killer, hide, tendons. etc. all seem to find a way to stick in it.

I love my CABS. I have not skinned with either it or my Muck.

Love them though. The edge on my CABS is outstanding (even better than the muck).

No choil is key!

A BAD will work, but mine does tend to get a bit hung up in meat.

pork belly skinner, is my knife of choice for capping animal's. but the new muck seem's like it will also do the job.

I am looking forward to using my War Dog this year for deer season. It's 5" and a little thicker than the above mentioned knives but I feel it's going to great as an all arounder for a belt knife deer hunting. With it's res-c handle which is perfect wet or in freezing weather, satin finish easy to keep clean and being beefier and lighter than some you got to like it. ps it's about $100 less also.

Just got a Howling Rat GII today and though I haven't used it yet it seems ideal to me. I have read others comments to be about the same. Don't have any of the others (yet) to comment on, but I do have a Muk on "HOG Layaway." Hopefully I will be able to get out hunting this year and if I do and am lucky I will definitely compare the two (or more :D )side by side.

Yep and thanks...didn't consider the choil as an issue at first, but clearly see how it could/would get "hung up" at some point while processing an entire animal.

Something satin. The coated blades do not work very well on critters.

Glad you weighed in on this as I was wondering if this would be an issue. The "no glare" coated finish is appealing for obvious reasons although only the pommel will be visible if at all.

(FYI: I bowhunt exclusively and only for trophy whitetial, so yes even glare from the but of a knife is taken into consideration.)

I think I'm going to pick up a CABS LE with a satin blade as well as a MUK in the same configuration.

Good choice Rocketman. Same as what i use. Muk has not seen action yet. I use a Custom SAR4 for breaking down the deer in to meat.
