I have a few pics from this past deer season I wanted to share. It was a pretty good season even though I didn't score on a buck. I took four doe and missed two buck. The doe in the pics is one I got during early muzzleloader in October. My hunting buddy and I do small two man drives with much success. This doe is the result of one of those drives. The drive was done in a strip of woods 4 or 500 yds. long and about 200 yards wide. From experience, the deer take the same path through the woods when pushed. I was positioned where the four doe damn near ran me over before they stopped 20 yds. in front of me. I used my Knight Bighorn 50 cal. muzzleloader to take this deer. Enjoy. :)

This is the cornfield that borders the woods we drive. The woods we drive is not in the pic. It's behind me. The woods you see is where I took another doe while laying in a prone position in the field. She came out of the corner of the field and woods about a 140 yd. shot.

This is the deer, my pocket palm hunter that I used to field dress and my gun.

Here's my ugly mug with the doe. :D

Looks like good times an good shootin :D
How do you like that Knight? I'm not sure I'd ever admit owning one (or letting my great plains rifle know about it), but they look like they might be fun ;)

Yes it is always a great time just getting outdoors. I love getting deer every season, but if I don't just being out is what it's all about. I like the Knight alot because it offers me the opportunity to shoot at longer ranges. I want to set my TC Encore up with a muzzleloader barrel. That is my favorite gun. The knife use is what I like most. Sitting on stand fondling my knives. :D I like working on several designs over the spring and summer and then trying them out in the fall.

Nice Deer....

Kim Breed and I spent a couple weeks hunting...he didn't get any with me (but did get deer when he went with his brother) but he had fun helping me dragg 3 in one day..... I got 7 deer in 4 days hunt. 3 bucks and 4 slick heads. Hell, bagged some tennessee whisky (most important) just before the killing spree. I donated some to feed the hungry that we do down here for elderly and others that could use the meat.

Kim did get to use a prototype knife of mine and lasted well.....12 squirrels and 7 deer and will still shave the hair off your neck...... 1084 steel double quenched full tang with ebony scales. Who knows maybe he can do a write-up on Blade for me....Already cut ribs and pelvis with it.....and he was not gentle.

Well, that is the best thing about knifemakers....we can have fun outside the shop.

Sounds like you guys had a great time. :) It's always fun to try out some new knives I've made over the summer. It good to hear you can get some R&R to get out and hunt. Hunting like knifemaking is what keeps me sane in this messed up world we live in. I can go in the woods or have time alone in my shop grinding. That's my therapy. When I'm grinding, my mind is at ease. The same when I'm on my deer stand. All the pains in the ass, in life, drift from my mind.

that is so true.... after that semester of nursing schoo.....Boy did I feel stressed.... I have not had a chance to hunt for many years due to the military (still active). I will not be able to hunt again this winter. I should be back at Fort Bragg and maybe to Iraq. But oh well, The army just payed my way through nursing school....little less that two months to graduation....Thank God....

I have been fortunate to meet such great knifemakers (Gary and Kim) and good friends. Hope I meet other knifemakers in NC like them....but cannot wait til after my three years are up....I am done with the Army and time to come back home (after 9 years in service) to Tennessee....I have paid my dues!!!!!!
