The city of London pays the the Queen a knife, an axe, six horseshoes, and 61 nails a year for property leased in 1211.

Now THAT's a bill hook!

Marvellous!

We do still have a few bill hook makers in England, making regional patterns. I have a Devonshire pattern, but am at work so can’t snap a quick photo. At any rate, it certainly looks slightly more rustic than the mirror polished item intended for Brenda. The kids love it almost as much as they do my forest axe.

I would certainly love a nice polished axe like that. As much as I like the mostly rugged, unfinished look of my Wetterlings, I’d prefer a polished head. Easier to maintain, and looks nicer.

What I find difficult to understand is that they still have a Queen in this day and age
So very few of us are in a position to point and laugh at someone else’s choice of head of state. I’m certainly not able to. And that’s as much as I can say in General.

So once a year for over 800 years? 807 axes, 807 knives, 4,842 horse shoes, 49,227 nails. There's a really cluttered closet somewhere in the castle.

I bet someone here can top that for both axes and knives.
I read up on this - apparently the Crown loans the exact same billhook, axe, horseshoes, and nails back to the city of London every year so they can pay the debt. That is some top quality loansharking right there.

Pretty cool cutlery! And story! What kind of steel is the billhook? One of them CPM steels, I bet! :D

As for the discussion of the structure of their government and the role of the Queen, man it would be great if we had a subforum where one could discuss political topics. Somebody should get on that.

That isn't the only silliness to do with the monarchy. Princes William and Harry's children aren't even under the control of the parents. The queen has legal custody of the children that they have or may have. The parents must get permission from the queen if they want to do certain things with the kids. What this has to do with blades I don't know, just a look at English law.

I must say that they appear to be way more badass than the worthless wussies who are running the Canadian gvt right now

Political sub is around the corner- Keep it where it belongs-

As in the subject the OP posted- It's interesting to see and does have some knife trivia in it.
