Hi all and Happy New Year,
I'm looking to buy a small Sebenza and have noticed that some sellers indicate lockup is 50%. What doe that mean. Any other terms that I should know that would be a red flag to leave this knife alone? Or if there is a 'sticky' with term definitions please point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance for the help.

That means that the face of the lockbar engages 50% of the tang, therefore the lockup is solid, but also has room for wear. Just about perfect.

So, what is the % number that I should be looking for? A lot of sellers indicated 100% lock up!
Thanks for the help.

I think there is a double meaning here that's a bit confusing ! Where lockup is at and how solid it locks up !! Haha

I think CRK specs them to 30-70%. With up to 70% being just fine. The main thing is that there is no blade play and the lock is easy to disengage.

difficult to say, really.

i have one sebenza that locks up at about 25%, and has never moved in the couple years i have owned it.

i have another that started at about 40%, now is closer to 60% after less than a year.

My small Classic Sebenza is almost 10yrs old and lockup has been ~30% since the day it came out of the box. I can't remember a day when it hasn't been used at least once and it hasn't shown any signs of wear yet.

If you look at the "FAQ" sticky at the top of this forum - Anne Reeve says the spec lock-up is 75% for a Sebenza. That means when the knife is open, the lockbar should cover 75% of the blade thickness at the pivot.

My first large Sebenza was around 55-60% when new.

The one I currently have is around 75-80%.

When I bought the one I currently have (summer 2010) I handled 3 brand new Sebenzas, and they all locked up around 75-80%.

So far, this lockup has stayed consistent.

Solid lockup means that the blade does not exhibit any up/down or side to side play when the knife is open and the lockbar is engaged.

The good news is that CRK customer service is great - so if there ever was a problem they can take care of you.
