Define Sic?

I see the word tossed around quite a bit on these boards without the use of brackets? Is it abbreviation for something? I know the purpose of [Sic] when used in brackets but is there a different meaning? Thanks...

SiC, when referencing sharpening stones, is the abbreviation silicone carbide (silicone carbon, actually; but it references silicone carbide stones)

Ah, ha... Thanks for your quick reply. I had a suspicion that it had to do with silicone since forum is all about knives, types of steels and methods of sharpening etc... So, I am not slowly going insane. that's good to know.
