I am just wondering what the consensus will be, or IF there will be a consensus.

IMO hard use for a fixed blade is batoning, and chopping, and hard use for a folder would be cutting stuff like thick electrical wire and 2-3ply cardboard.
 
Hard use is batonning, chopping, digging, prying, stabbing. The best blade material as far as price range and performance is 1095. The Busse lovers will all cry Infi but they make way too much money and 75% of those knives never leave their sheaths.
