First things first. A frame and a liner lock are NOT the same thing.
A liner lock has a bar inside the two halves of the handle or frame of the knife.
A frame lock uses the ACTUAL frame to lock the knife open.
This makes the lock up much stronger and any hard gripping of the knife, only makes the lock LESS likely to fail. With the liner lock it is the other way round, it is MORE likely to fail. The frame lock is a LOT better, but more expensive and requires a solid frame from Ti or steel etc. Normaly Ti is used for its lighter weight and better spring qualities. However G10 etc can not be used and it makes the knife more expensive and heavier.
The CQD has neither, it has a plunger lock. I have stripped my Mk1 and it looks a very good design. However I would not like to comment on its success as I have yet to really test it and it has a secondary safetly on the thumb rest. This is a good/bad thing. Good as it makes the knife safer, bad because if the lock is good in the first place, why fit a secondary safety?
Hope it helps.
