dehumidifying cabinets

I live 5 miles from the beach. I do not use a dehumidifying cabinet.

And I live in AZ, we are a dehumidifying cabinet.
I don't think it's necessary to use these for knives, some people are really extreme and might feel that it is essential. If your blades are not orange/brown rusted I would say "Save your cash".

I store in an airtight container with a rechargeable 40 gram silica gel dehumidifier inside

Easiest is storage in a surplus ammo box along with VPI paper or tablets. It does not dehumidify, but emits vapors which prevent rust. Brownells carries it, maybe under a different name.

A low wattage light bulb in a closed space will prevent condensation which is the chief problem. There is also a commercial product called the Golden Rod' often sold to prevent rust in gun cabinets.

Beware of silica gel. It absorbs moisture and does prevent rust in that way, but the absorbed water will rust anything that comes in direct contact with the silica gel.
