Dejavoo liner lock clicks when disengaged

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, but have lurked. I recently bought a NIB Benchmade 740 with satin blade and plain-edge. I really like Bob Lum's designs, I had always wanted to get one of these, as a counterpart to my Spyderco Large Chinese Folder, which is one of my favorite knives, but never got around to it, and prices went sky high on them, post-discontinuation. I finally found one at a decent price, and jumped. I have mostly been a Spyderco guy, over the years, but I've owned a couple Benchmades, all with an AXIS lock. The 740 seems well made, and generally comparable to my Spydercos (though quite different), but one thing that I've found slightly unsettling is the way the liner clicks loudly, when disengaged. I've disassembled the knife, and there really isn't any adjustment that seems to change the noise (which is a good thing, as the lock shouldn't be terribly fit dependent, but I had hoped to get rid of the click!). The only other liner locks I've owned have been Spyderco, and they just smoothly disengage, basically noiselessly. Is it normal for the liner on the Dejavoo to click? Is this just caused by simple friction, or a dissimilar metal friction bond releasing? When I had the knife apart, I didn't really see part of the mechanism that would obviously account for the noise. I'm okay with it if it's a normal, and if it's merely friction I figure that it'll smooth itself out with use, but I wanted to check with the experts. Thanks, and sorry for the long post, I tend to be a bit long-winded.

I do want to say that I really like the knife, other than wondering about the clicking! It's very comfortable in my pocket, and it has about the sweetest opening of any factory folder I've owned (I carry all my knives point down, so the lack of detent is not an issue for me). Very discreet for a 4" blade, and very light. The clip is great, and it was very comfy when I took apart some heavy duty cardboard boxes, earlier today. I've put it to the water stones (1000 Naniwa Chosera followed by 8000 Gesshin, followed by felt for deburring), and it takes a wicked edge.

I took my 740 out and it also clicks when opening, but not loud enough to concern me. It's always been that way and for that matter my 745 also does that. It might be the tang moving over the detent, could be something else. I agree these are great knives and as a tribute to Bob Lum are close enough in design to warrant owning a couple...he's gone but his design genius live on. If you really are bothered, there's always a trip to the factory to have it fine tuned. G'luck!

I wouldn't worry about it. If I read your post correctly this click occurs when the knife is open and you disengage the lock to close it? If that's the case sounds like it's just a nice snug fit and nothing to worry about.

BTW: that's a great knife you have there. Special in many ways. Sold mine and have been regretting it ever since. Bob Lum had a real genius that shined in his knife designs. The Dejavoo as you said is super light and subtle in appearance but a very capable knife on many levels. A Bob Lum classic design all the way.

Congrats on your new knife.

This is correct. Note, if you flick your knife open swiftly, the lock engages a bit tighter. After doing this, when you push the lock towards the frame to disengage, the friction of the lockup will give suddenly causing a click from breaking friction. I just tried this multiple times with mine to try and discover what caused the click. When I open the blade slowly, then release, it doesn't seem to click as it's not locked up quite as tight.
BTW, a belated congratulations on buying a really fine knife.
I've had mine several years or more and it is not going anywhere. It's a definite keeper for a lot of the reasons cited above. :)
I believe it is now collectible. ;)

Are you experiencing slight lock-stick? The locking side is titanium. I love this knife, a friend has the mini, wish I had picked one up. Only gripe I have is the after-thought back spacer. Looks so out of place.

Now I ask you, What's not to like about this knife. The slight click is actually reassuring.
I love the lines of this knife.

Come on now, made you smile a little, didn't it? ;)
