I love everything about my new 740 (been edc it for a month or so now) except the back spacer.

So here is my only complaint against the knife. I dont like the cheap(looking) plastic back spacer. has anyone substituted the plastic back spacer for metal spacing beads like ones on the bradley alias, sebenza, or new limited edition 806? I think i want to put spacers like that on my 740 just not blue ones (too played out imo) if anyone has tips on where to get these or how to do it please let me know

thanks for the link and the name of the part ........ let me know if you go through with it on your bm800

I agree on the 740. I replaced the blue standoffs on my Alias with satin versions from Knifekits. They were easy to deal with.

I'm probably going to do the same with my 740.

what do you mean by "made them" and wow that really makes a difference....... nice work

I wish benchmade used standoffs more often they really make the knife look nicer (imo) and they cant cost much more if at all.

Thanks :). I made them on a lathe to the exact thickness of the plastic backspacer, and then polished them on a buffing wheel.

I also polished the clip and screws.

This may be a dumb question but when you use the standoffs, what kind of screw do you use? The factory setup screws into the back spacer provided on both sides. The standoffs do not look threaded. Do I need to thread them or am I missing something.

As long as we're asking stupid questions...

I've got an 800SBT AFCK and would like to replace the back spacer as well as the washers. I'm looking at the KnifeKits site and it looks like I would want the .156 thick spacers, but the original big nylon washer in my knife is .75 OD. Will a smaller washer work in bronze, or do I need to find the same OD washer? Anyone know the stock thickness of the nylon washers? (I don't have a caliper.)

Thanks!
