Okay, I give up.

I've been looking at that sheath and sword from all angles, but I can't figure out why the sheath needs that relief notch at the opening?
Whassat?

I'll give you a hint, look at the cross....

That bloody upturned hilt came as a bit of a surprise to me I have to admit. I had to have the scabbard that wide, I could not get that big wide section of the blade in otherwise. I had to have the notch or I could not have that cross "flush" with the scabbard. There is probably some other spiffy way to handle this but this was the best solution I could come up with. This guy actually got a heck of a deal on this scabbard considering the extra work that I ended up doing. The next guy that wants a scabbard for one of these falchions (they really are very nice) is going to end up paying a little more.

Ahhhhh, I see it now.

It tricks the eyes doesn't it?
The blade tapers, but the scabbard can't!

I suspect the only "way around it" is to extend the straight arm of the quillion out farther before breaking it over.

Either that, or set the scabbard up for "edge up" carry, and cut it so the spine of the blade lays flat. This would clearance the top one, and of course the bottom one is bent back towards the pommel.

Here is the review:

Del Tin 5131

Overall length: 29.75 inches
Bladel Length 23.25 inches
Point of Balance: 3.5 inches from cross
Center of Percussion: 15.75 inches from cross
Weight: 2.7 lbs
Pommel type: G
Cross type: 12 Variant
Blade type: Not typed

Performance Review:
This was a customer's sword so I could not cut with it. This blade is made for one thing and one thing only - chopping. In that department I think that it will perform admirably. A good solid weapon, and reasonably quick on recovery. The perfect sword for powerful crushing blows.

Appearance:
This is a very plain weapon by Del Tin standards. No embellishment whatsoever. The only thing that could be considered decoratife is the cross. Still the sword has a pleasing profile and is nicely done.

I believe that these things retail for around 350-400 dollars depending on the seller. For a Del Tin however the waiting list is almost a year unless you happen to stumble on a retailer that has one in stock.
