Yes, apparently having my home page or any reference to me being a knifemaker in my profile is a violation of the rules. so delete my account now:

Dear Les Voorhies,

You have received a new private message at BladeForums.com from Karda, entitled "You have received a warning at BladeForums.com".

This is the message that was sent:

Dear Les Voorhies,

You have received a warning at BladeForums.com.

Reason:
-------
Failure to follow Forum Specific Rules

You need to remove your home page reference and any references to you as a knifemaker from your profile or purchase a knifemaker membership.
These are perks of paid membership, which you don't have.
Failure to do so may result in termination of your account.

Please see these threads:
Knifemakers-Please-support-this-website-with-a-Knifemaker-s-Membership

Specifically this one:

1) You are not allowed to advertise or promote your business in any way on this site without a paid membership.
In your case it would be a knifemaker/craftsman/service provider membership.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/payments.php
Please cease and desist any advertising or promotion until you have upgraded your membership.
You may still participate in discussions as a registered user. Without any advertisement.

2) You are not allowed to have a knifemaker homepage as a registered user. Please remove it.
"The only members who may promote or display their personally built knives, services and/or products in the discussion threads or via their signature or home page listing in their user profile are "Manufacturers", "Dealers" and "Knifemaker/Craftsman/Service Providers".

Please take the time to read and understand the sites posted rules here:

We hope you enjoy your time here and wish to continue as a paid provider on our forums!

Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow.

All the best,

You can go to the upper right corner and click on Log Out, then forget your password and don't log back in. Account closed.

Anyone is allowed to have a home page or a reference to being a knifemaker in their profile, as long as they have a paid Knifemaker membership.

I think you may be overreacting just a bit, maybe take some time and reconsider.

Les, you have been here quite some time. Why not pay the fee to show your a knife maker. If the funds are a problem, just abide to the rules until you get a chance to make the appropriate changes.

Dude, I really like your work, but your overreaction just insured I would never purchase one of your knives.

This forum went sad quite a while back, but now they have hit a new low. I can't even seem to get banned in a reasonable amount of time.

Normally I'd oblige your request but…

A lot of people are happy with this sad forum. But, we aim to please. Consider yourself banned, at your own request.

Geez, what the hell people. We have very simple rules; if you don't help keep the site open with a paid subscription, you don't get to advertise here.

A Knifemaker's membership is $75 a year. $6.25 a month. The prices were just raise a month or two ago from $60 a year after being that rate for around a decade.

Now, in comparison, if you want to advertise in a knife magazine, a 1/3rd page vertical ad on ONE PAGE will run you around $700 or so each month (depending on the magazine) if you commit to a 12 month contract. Do the math.

Hell, for the price of a three year knifemaker's membership I will even set you up with your own personal knifemaker's forum AND you still get the whole three years membership.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

It's unfortunate when people react this way to a simple request, a warning notice, no points.
I'm truly sorry that Mr. Voorhies chose to act out rather than think and realize that it was only a request to comply with a rule.
This forum is a community oriented platform for in-depth discussion, learning, help, friendship, camaraderie and most of all information.
It is a community like any other, based on honesty, integrity, trust, honor.
A simple request that you not advertise without a paid membership and a nominal fee for the many benefits of membership is not an unreasonable request in my opinion.
Registered Users are not prevented from participating in any discussion on this forum to their hearts content, with the only rules being that they may not advertise or sell here. Older experienced members, young and old, any level of expertise or fame may teach, tutor, mentor learn and have fun here provided the aforementioned be followed.
The Rules and FAQ are pretty simple to understand and are plainly posted.
They are in place to foster a sense of community and honest participation and exchange of information.

They are also in place to keep things fair and honest in regards to the paid membership that supports the upkeep and expense of this forum and chooses to do business here and contribute not only monetarily, but in their participation and contributions of knowledge to the next generation of up and coming people in the craft of both hobby and professional knifemaking. By their trust and support, this forum thrives.
For a nominal years fee at present of $75, any member can have privileges to not only learn the craft, but to sell his wares to a vast clientele of members eager to support up-and-coming makers and also those who have made a name for themselves.
No one is being forced to purchase a membership here. Participation in a community sense in not restricted.
A membership fee for helping upkeep on the forums for the benefit of advertising or doing business here and benefitting from the community is not an unreasonable request.

My honest opinion is that for many years the man above has provided this great platform at his expense, monetarily and in time effort and sometimes blood, sweat and tears. Every one of these years without caving into monetizing the site for ad's and outside marketing intruding into the exchange of information. Paid Memberships are his main source of support for this place, Why shouldn't he benefit a little from those whom wish to use this site to benefit themselves?
