I have wondered, when a person sells all the items they have listed in a thread and then removes the posted or sold prices, why isn't the posting just deleted? There is no more useful information in the thread, such as a selling or asking price it just sits out there taking up space even if it is closed?

Well that's it, everyone have a healthy and prosperous 2016.

Just lock it so no one can ask "Is this sold?"
There is information there for those who need it.

It's not deleted because only moderators can delete posts, but that is something we do not do. There is a written and lasting record of the transaction, in case something goes sideways down the road. Which has happened in the past. It doesn't make any sense to simply wipe out all record of a transaction, as if it never happened.

Hmm... That actually poses an interesting question / discussion if I may. Certain members (I'll not name names of the guilty here) have the habit of editing their sales posts after the sale, or when they re-post their wares in a new thread after two weeks, by deleting all their text and simply replacing it with "gone" or "deleted" or even just "*********".

This is almost the same as deleting the entire thread, especially if the OP's posts weren't quoted somewhere in the thread (which I typically do as historic record, to keep the prices, etc. intact regardless of what the OP does). Now I realize that you mods can see all post edits, but since regular BF members can't, should this practice of "self-deleting" the posts be allowed if these threads are meant to be kept for record, as this practice is somewhat of a "work-around" against the BF "policy" of not deleting threads?

Putting this into perspective here (maybe it's the booze talking), this skirting of the rules/policies by staying in the grey areas kind of reminds me of a certain banned flipper with similar practices that we all loved SO much...

Editing things is one thing and the sellers prerogative, but deleting is permanent and cannot be undone. Once a thread is made, even if it is edited, supermods can see what was posted and potentially restore if necessary. Just because a member can't see what was there, doesn't mean we can't.

I want them left so I can look at what sold. The deleting of prices also ought to stop. It can be very difficult to know that to price pieces at with all the ball hiding.a

You know better than to rehash this crap again, right? Who cares if they hide it? Just because an item sold for. $xx in February 2013, does,t mean that it is going to be thte same price February 2016. There are plenty of ways to find out what the going rate for something is, browse the internet using Google, MSN, Yahoo, Bing, whatever. Besides, it is noboby's business, again it's between the buyer and seller.
