That's a pretty solid list - no complaints on it at all. For the more budget-minded I'd mention the Spyderco Manix 2 lightweight. It's got a forward choil like the Para 2, is ambidextrous for both opening and unlocking, uses decent steel, and can be found for around $65. For even less, I'd mention the Ontario Rat II which uses typical AUS 8, has a good thumb rest for control, and can be found for under $30.

Great thread. Solid choices and a good starting point for any person. Plus the variety of suggestions gives a contrast to what a person may be looking for in aesthetic or features.

The Benchmade 710 is one of the ones on my list to get, my friend has a First Production runs. Love it.

I think you should sticky this. Great idea. Maybe people can add on with more common EDC knives.

There are so many good options that it is always hard to give an answer to people that ask questions about edc knives. Everyones opinions vary, I think the three you chose are very good knives and are great representations at "gateway knives" or even the knives after someones "gateway knife".

Yep, all three are great choices. I have a Para 2 and 710 and find both are nearly perfect carry blades. Even with smaller hands they are extremely balanced and comfortable to use.

I like my Buck Vantage Pro. Hard to get a knife for under $75 that has S30V steel and it fits really well in my hand. Stays sharp a long time. In the past the Vantage Pro had issues with blade alignment and fit/finish but mine came well centered and fit/finish was fine for the price of this knife.

Personally I think the three knives in the OP are just a bit large for EDC; although all are excellent knives IMO they are more suited for self-defense.

Perhaps we might see some smaller suggestions, maybe featuring blades under 3"?

Great post, BTW, I just thought we might expand it a bit.

All three of those would be great EDC's.

For a smaller sleeker edc it is very hard to beat a Kershaw Leek, in my opinion. Been carrying one for years (have several) and it has always handled anything I used it for in general edc tasks. Completely disappears clipped in the right front pocket and best of all I can reach my hand in the same pocket easily without the Leek getting in the way.

Excellent thread. And I agree that these three offerings from Benchmade , Spyderco and Zero Tolerance are all outstanding "must haves". I own all three and have carried each one (just got my new 710 yesterday and I'm in love with it).

Note : the blade thickness on the 710 is .115" (not .114") and on the Para2 the blade thickness is .141" (not .147"). I think these three knives offer incredible bang for the buck and I recommend them all to anyone contemplating a new EDC.

For an EDC that is a bit smaller I would suggest the Spyderco Native5 and Benchmade Sequel 707.

Thanks. Been eyeing the Para II or one of the ZTs for a while now to switch out between my SAK for EDC. I'm just afraid that once I get one I will want 10 more.

If there are any hopes or ambitions to stickify this, we might want to either clarify this as "tactical one hand opener EDCs" or figure out a way to expand and classify the range of options in terms of fashion/style.

My suggestions for good EDC choices fall way, way below the OP's suggested price range.

Opinel in RFP and Micra in LFP handles just about any issue that a knife/tool can be used on.

If we stick just to knife side, the Opinels will keep up with just about anything in terms of durability and cutting ability. Might not be a person's "cup of tea" style-wise, but that's the point I'm making. Huge range of styles here.

Great choices, OP, I only own 2 of the three (710 and Para 2) but both rank as some of my most frequently carried knives. As for slightly smaller options I himbly submot the Spyderco Delica. It's not quite my thing, but it's a great, affordable knife.

Get this Sleeper... a KA-BAR Dozier designed Lightweight Folder. $20. bucks and this knife has not left my pocket.
