What do you mean "being able to see the most recent activity within a thread without having to click on it"?

Mouse over the thread title and you'll see the same info that used to be displayed in vB.
 
At first I really missed the old format too. After some use I can get anywhere I use to just as fast or faster, just takes a little experimenting to find the navigational tricks. This is besides the exchange. That should go back to the top. It deserves its own button like before. Plus, with how damn fast this new version is I'd gladly keep it over the old. Really like the alerts too because they get you super quick to threads you are currently involved in without email notifications.
