I'd like to know too. I think SheathMechanic used kydex for the grip slabs. I've also considered using some nice looking wood, but so far haven't made a decision.

I've been trying to get my order back from Dave (Sheath Mechanic) for a while. I don't know what's going on there, but he owes me two sheaths (and two knives) and a NIB Becker I bought from him. Keeps indicating he'll send it and then doesn't.

I've had good dealings with him in the past, but I'm not sure I'd send him anything else until he gets caught up and on a more regular part-time schedule.

Bob,
That's correct- SheathMechanic uses kydex. Also, his webpage states he has become quite busy and won't be taking any new orders for a while. Otherwise, I would be tempted to send the Becker in.

I was also thinking of wood- but i like the synthetic materials. Plus, I don't think the wood will hold up as well at the thickness I am ideally looking for.

I've had my necker for around two years and it is a great knife. I've used it more then I thought i would. It's size insured it was always around. At first the handle didn't bother me, but now i'm getting picky and want more. Make it a little thicker, and something that will round off the back and eliminate that stupid bottle opener!

At the moment I've been looking at a Rat3. Seems to be very similar to the Necker, but with a handle that has what I'm looking for, if slightly longer...
Might start a thread to get some comparisons from owners.

cheers,
T.

I have both. In fact I got my Rat3 because I wanted something slightly bigger than my Necker. I really like both knives. The Rat is very well built, easy to use in a variety of hand positions and snaps securely into its sheath. My only gripe is that it is slightly too heavy for use as a neck knife and I really don't like "tactical" looking knives for belt carry. I carry it in my BOB bag and use a Mora for a neck knife. Other than that, super knives both of them

I actually like the bottle opener on the Necker. Anyone make G10 or micarta scales that allow the bottle opener to stay?
