Deleting individual messages?

I've tried looking for this answer.

If I'm maxed out....over 100% full....can I delete individual texts, while keeping the rest of the conversation?
As a way to get less than my maximum allotment.

You need to leave the conversation(s) to clear space. But you can choose to accept future messages in the conversation(s) (at least you could before the change...assuming that's still the case).

But that means the conversation in its entirety is gone?

I'm wanting to just delete certain parts, not the whole thing. If possible?
 
If there's a way to prune individual messages I can't find it. The export option looks like a good choice, though.
 
Export your messages and save them offline, then delete them.
