Surely someone can tell me what steel was used for the Delica 3's. I'm just curious because mine is long gone and it's replacement the Delica 4 I picked up has VG-10. A google search didn't help me much.

IIRC, VG10 was used for the D3. The steel remained the same for the D4.
ATS-55 and GIN-2 were a couple of other steels.

No one can tell you for certain what steel yours had. The Delica 3 was made with several steels, including AUS-8, ATS-55 and VG-10. I've never seen a D3 in G-2/GIN-1, but that doesn't mean there weren't any.

I'm assuming that it would have been marked on the blade but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. I do know it shattered into 3 or 4 pieces after meeting the lawnmower blade.

I don't understand why, but Sal has never seen the value of adopting a lawnmower-proof steel for the Delica.

But, yeah, it would've been marked on the blade if you can find that particular piece.

The more I think about it, it may have been the ATS-55. Just trying to compare the old to the VG-10. I'm assuming the VG-10 is better in most respects.

Yep. ATS-55 and VG-10 were "field tested" together (i.e. they were used in production at the same time) and VG-10 gave better real world performance. ATS-55 was dropped and VG-10 became the basic steel for Spyderco.
