Hello everyone!

I got 2nd hand Spyderco Delica 4 and its been great. I recently dropped it to salt water so I diassembled it, cleand and dried it. Lubed and put back together. Now blade has lateral bladeplay even pivot is fully tighten so knife blade barely moves.

I know, I was stupid. Still, what are my options? I don't hink Spyderco warranty cover's this as I disassembled it so its probably my own fault. Prior this I had never noticed blade play issue.

as I am not american, my choices can be limited. I don't mind sending knife to spyderco and pay little for fixing it... If they do such things and then comes the thing like payment.

Any insight is greatly appreciated. I love my Delica 4 and I want it rock solid like my FFG Delica is.

Sounds like the parts were not fitted back together just right....

How much is it moving? and how hard are pressing to make it move?

With enough pressure or force I can get all my knives to move side to side.

Maybe so, stupid is, stupid does. However I did remove quite bit gunk from the lock notches. That almost clay like dark greyish grease. Oh, well, I think its time for me to contact Spyderco crew and ask few questions, like how to pay fixing my Delica 4... Well, with two finger pincher movement near tip, it moves enough much to make clonking sound and movment can also be felt in locking bar.

Contact them, they're great people. I don't even think they'll charge you anything to fix it, though that's just an assumption.
Good luck.

And it's moving that much while you have the pivot tightened up all the way?

With enough force placed on the blade there will be at least some degree of up and down blade play with Spyderco's lock backs. Not a lot but it's there.
At least from my experience with them.

However I can not explain the side to side play. Unless the pivot screw is too lose.
Not saying this is your case, but sometimes you gotta put up with a tiny bit of side to side blade play to get the right blade tension you like.

When I had privot prior cleaning fully tighten it was like fixed blade. Now with fully tighten pivot it moves with pincher hold enough to make audiable noise against lock bar. Minor is not much but if its able to make able to make noise I hear over cooling fan, computer and tv in same room and move 1-2mm is not minor.

Ya it sounds like something went wrong during the disassembley or the assembly.
Give Charlynn a call and I'm sure she'll hook you up.

Hmm, I wonder what international phone calls would cost... *wonders* I think I'll ask via e-mail :D

Edit:
As non-us and its past midnight its maybe stupid to ask referring to first post but was lateral up and down or side to side? Because my blade is completely solid when it comes to side to side movement, even when pivot is not tighten fully... its the up and down movement that I cannot prevent no matter what. And that movement is causing the clonking sound.

:D LOL It did cost me a few extra bucks on my phone bill that month if I recall.
I do think that they have a 1-800 number. But I'm not sure.

I always like to call. I find that it's easier to explain what the problem is over phone. Plus how cool is it getting personal calls from Spydeco.;)

Is Canada really non-conus for real? ;) I mean its bit different to call cross the pond in GMT+2 time zone... Besides with my horrible accent in speach they probably would not understand word I say or in worse case would start speak French... It has happened before. I speak English, my accent is what it is and people go, oh you're french! And then they start talking french...

Anyway I think I'll stick in written stuff. I am rather good articulate things in written form even half dead from sleep depravation... Darn heat...

LOL Ya over the pond would cost a wee bit more.:)

I hear ya about this HEAT! I haven't had a good sleep in three days

Anyways man Good luck with getting your Delica fixed

It says that a problem caused by taking apart the knife is not covered by their warranty.

How much does the very tip of the knife move up and down? All lock backs have a small amount of vertical play and it is considered normal and required for the lock to work right and be strong. They also won't do anything about this small amount of play since it is normal. If out of tolerance they might take it apart to look at but that depends on how much the blade moves.

Do you think you might be able to fix it or figure out what is going on with it if you took it apart again? Some Delicas have a back spacer with little plastic tabs that fit in holes in the liners. If those tabs don't go into the holes correctly there can be problems.

Lighter duty knives like the Delica will always develop some wiggle room. Nothing QC unless the lock or pivot is faulty.

Well, I guess they do some but this much I have is not some IMHO. It really feels like tolerance between notches has been too big for this one knife. I mean my Delica 4 FFG is still good and no noticable wiggle while my Delica 4 wiggles about as much as el-cheapo noname slipjoint... I'll see what spyderco crew says. I've contacted them via e-mail. Fingers crossed, thanks everyone.

It's a 2nd hand Delica, why bother calling overseas to the USA? It would be cheaper to buy a new one and just keep it as a beater.
