Delica 4 or mini grip?

Just getting into knives, partly because they are cheaper than guns and needed a recommendation. I got a Kershaw Leek for Christmas and just bought a PM2, which I love, and I'm wanting one more knife for now. I like the leek because its small and I very rarely wear anything thick enough to carry the PM2 because of the heat in Florida. I want something about the size of the leek but without aluminum handles, will fill my grip a little more and doesn't have as fine a blade. I've never handled a delica but I've read very good things about them. I have held a mini grip and liked it. Probably just used for light cutting of cardboard and the like. Is the delca really any more of a knife than the leek and what is anyone's opinion? It's just the 556 grip and the vg10 delica. I thought about the zdp delica but I don't think that for the extra money it's necessary. Thanks.

I was able to pick up and handle both of them at a store I was at and I like the feel of the Delica. It just feels comfortable in my hand like the PM2. As far as deploying, I almost always use two hands to open a knife so it doesn't matter which is faster.

I own both and the mini grip (I have 2) gets the most use. I prefer the ease of one hand operation that the axis lock affords.

I was actually in a store the other day handling a Delica and Endura along side a mini-grip and a few other Benchmade knives of unbeknownst model numbers. It was unbelievable how much better the quality on the Spyderco knives was than the Benchmades. I'm not a huge fan of either company and have owned far more Benchmades than Spydercos but there is no denying that the Spydies were put together better.
Mainly the finishing on the delica/endura handles was much better than that of the benchmades but more importantly the blades on the benchmades weren't nearly as solid when open.

Consider a Fallkniven TK4. Same blade length as delica, but much smaller handle. Fits the hand nicely, fits the pocket better, great steel. No question of it being uncomfortable in light clothes.

I'd say since you already have a spyderco get the mini grip. Great little knife and its good to try different brands and styles when you're first starting out.

If you honestly think your going to stop buying knives after this one last one do your self a favor and get the axis lock, everyone needs atleast one.

You won't stop tho, no one ever stops. Welcome to BF!

I have both. Get the Delica. I like the mini mind you. Very neat little knife. But at half the price, the Delica carries better. The Delica / Endura duo are about the best EDC knives out there for the price and the steel and the quality and the flatness. Man are those things FLAT!!!

This will by no means be my last knife. Just my last for now. # in the last month is enough for the wife for now. The fallkniven is nice but I was trying to keep it around $60-$80. I can get the delica for @ $15 less than the grip. I don't have a benchmade yet so I was leaning towards that also because of the prices going up on them and it is getting harder to find one less than $80. I have a list of knives to get in the near future, these are just the two cheapest right now. I think I'm going to go with the mini grip now and get a zdp or super blue delica in a bit. I had also thought about a Kershaw skyline but that was 3rd on my list.

You won't be sorry with the Mini Grip. I have a M2 Ritter mini and love it. I want to get a sheepsfoot mini next.My son edc's one and that hollow ground blade is nice. I will get a Delica soon since they now offer more flat ground models. Most likely an orange one.:D

You made the right choice. I have a delica, I also have multiple mini-grips and plan to get another (Ritter) soon. Tho I, as a knife nut, have other knives I like better, I feel that for the average person the mini-grip in any flavor is the best buy-only-a-single-knife-and-carry-it-till-it-wears-out knife out there. I will always recommend the step up to a Ritter version but any of them are great knives.

If a year from now you get tired of it look up member Keyman and get a set of scales in any color of any material you can possible think up and make it a whole new knife. Look up his work now.

I have handled the mini grip but i havent handled the delica, i own a vg-10 ladybug 3 and i like the feel of the frn and the performance of the steel so i would get the delica, thats just me.

Thanks Cereal. I've already seen some of Keyman's work and I want some of his micarta scales. I'm gonna have to settle for the factory scales for a while though. I ordered it tonight so hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week. This site has cost me some money recently.

$20-30 more for a mini grip. Both are great and the Delica will have a thinner blade than the grip but still much stronger than the Leek. I have all three and they are great. I actually have a Delica for sale in the exchange if interested. Are you looking for ffg or saber grind in particular?

I like the hollow ground mini grip. It's a deep hollow grind. Cuts real well. Plus you get the opening hole. The Delica is great too and probably a better choice for most because of the longer handle.
