Ok so I've decided to get a D4 and was wondering which one I should get for my uses. Mainly what I would be using it for is EDC and wood whittling. I know that the FFG is is better at slicing and the saber ground model has a stronger blade. I was wondering if for my uses the added blade strength of the saber grind would make up for its inferior cutting abilty to the FFG version.

Wood whittling with a Delica? Good luck, even with the FFG. I prefer something much thinner and narrower for that, but YMMV.

The saber flavor is a fine slicer too. I think the distinction between the two flavors may sometimes be overstated.

FFG all the way. I purchased a FFG D4 about two years ago and have been carrying it ever since, its a fantastic slicer and far exceeds my saber E4. I thought that the difference was overstated until I compared the two.

I can feel enough of a difference slicing cardboard or draw-cutting an apple that I prefer the FFG by far. The strength of the blade has not been an issue, I have other things for prying.

I disagree, power. Try and slice an apple with a sabre delica and then try it with a ffg delica. There is a major difference.

FFG! One of the major reasons for buying a Spyderco besides the trademark hole that I love.

I bought the saber grind. My reason was because I already have enough FFG slicing lasers and I wanted a cheaper knife with a stronger tip to use for more 'abusive' tasks.

After breaking a small piece of the tip off on my Para 2, I learned my lesson about the trade off when a blade is FFG.

Para2 has a pointier tip than the Delica also.

You might want to re-consider what tools you use for what purpose. Abusing things just asks for something to fail.
